Scott Elliott

Transplant Type: Liver

In 2017, Scott Elliott was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease. Doctors said a liver transplant was critical and Scott was placed on the transplant waiting list. It was a difficult time for the entire family—Scott’s wife, Amy, his four children, five grandchildren, and his extended family were all very worried about his health.

The wait for a transplant can be a long one. Scott’s nephew, Billy, decided to take matters into his own hands. He got tested to be a potential living donor and turned out to be a match! Scott had always been a great influence on his nephew, even getting him to walk when he was 18-months-old. Later, Scott was a role model for Billy, helping him during his senior year of high school, advising him while he served in the Army, and later bringing Billy into the family business. The family wasn’t surprised at Billy’s selfless act—they knew how much he cared for his uncle. The bond between Scott and Billy had always been strong, and now it’s even stronger, as Scott received a portion of Billy’s liver in February!

Scott is grateful for the love and support of his family and is especially grateful to Billy for giving him the gift of life. Scott now looks forward to recovering fully from his transplant and returning home to be with his family and friends. He’s ready to feel like himself again and be able to cook and entertain. But right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Scott’s new life comes at a very high price.

The average liver transplant costs approximately $878,000. And, that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Scott had to stop working in January when he was hospitalized, and being out of work has taken a toll on his family business. In addition, he and Amy have had to relocate to be near the transplant center during his recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging, further adding to the financial strain.

As Scott’s living donor, Billy also had to take significant time off from work and incurred costs related to his hospitalization. Although the procedure itself was covered by insurance, there are still costs involved with being a living donor.

What if your life depended on the compassion and generosity of others?

The National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for Scott. NFT has been assisting transplant patients with fundraising support for 35 years. Your gift—of $25, $50, $100, or more—will enable NFT to provide Scott with the financial support he desperately needs.

Additionally, your gift will also enable NFT to provide assistance to Billy. Scott and Amy want to be sure that Billy doesn’t suffer financially as a result of his selfless act.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Scott. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Ohio Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Scott Elliott” on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
