April 23rd, 2020: Library Giving Day.

A day to give back to Windsor Public Library and to celebrate your library. We are here for you!

Library Giving Day is a time to celebrate public libraries and all that they give to communities. We at the Windsor Public Library look forward to Library Giving Day as a way to reach out to you our beloved community. To show you what we've been up to, to celebrate our community, and to ask for your support. Shockingly, COVID-19 has laced our community, our wallets and our world with uncertainty and fear, however we at the Windsor Library are here continuing our work. Our work to best support the residents of Windsor, even as we all deal with the health and financial uncertainties of this COVID-19 world we find ourselves in.

To adjust to this new reality, we have replaced our in-person programming for adults and youth with virtual programs put on through online platforms like JITSI, ZOOM, Facebook, and YouTube. Where normally we offer book and DVD borrowing from the library, we are highlighting free e-book and audiobook downloads from our website. We are providing one-on-one technical assistance to library users so they can get connected and find what they need. We are answering reference questions and passing on information about COVID-19, health insurance, unemployment, how to stay safe, how to help in the community response... The list goes on and on.

The Windsor Public Library is an incorporated library as opposed to a town library. Town libraries are fully supported by their town. Here in Windsor, our library is a private nonprofit. We gratefully receive 2/3 of our needed income from the town, but rely on donations, and interest from our investment account for the other third. Unfortunately, due to the current economic situation, our investment account has plummeted. Our current budget relies on withdrawing monthly interest from this account to make ends meet. The recent stock market downturn means that the interest we can safely draw is much, much less. Your help is urgently needed to fill this gap.

We realize that many of you may not be in a position to help at this time. We give you heartfelt thanks for previous support and our most heartfelt wish that your situation improves very soon. What's happening right now in the world means that some of us are struggling. If you can't help financially at this time, of course we understand. But if you can, please know that we are so grateful.
