In the last 5 years, Woodlands has experienced a 65% increase in animal admissions and the demand for our services continues to grow exponentially. The pandemic and subsequent fallout caused many wildlife rehabilitation facilities to close or limit their capacity. As a direct result, Woodlands has been inundated with more animal intakes.

In addition to caring for over 50 species, Woodlands is the primary rehabilitation facility for black bears, beavers, otters, and several threatened and endangered species, such as the state endangered bobcat and timber rattlesnake. The specialized care required for these critical species puts an even bigger strain on our carefully managed budget. Many require extensive medical care, extended stays, and dedicated diets.

Woodlands Wildlife Refuge is a 501c3 organization and has been dedicated to the care and release of orphaned and injured wildlife and educating the public about wild animal habits and habitats since 1986. Woodlands receives no state or federal funding.

As the largest facility in Northern New Jersey caring for mammals and reptiles, the services Woodlands Wildlife Refuge provides are essential to the public’s safety, New Jersey’s wildlife, the Division of Fish and Wildlife, and animal professionals. Woodlands cares for over 50 different species of mammals and reptiles and is the primary black bear rehabilitation facility.
