"It took me a long time to get the courage to speak in a class full  of kids my age.  The fact that I get to perform on an auditorium stage in front of the whole school is not only a huge step for me, but it is also a huge step for others like me. "

Writers Week is an experience no high school student will ever forget.  For one full week in February, the auditorium is taken over by writers: novelists, playwrights, journalists, slam teams, musicians, professional poets, motivational speakers, researchers, teachers, students, and more.

BHS teachers are invited to bring classes down to the auditorium during any period February 25-28 to view a variety of presentations and activities, and students are also able to attend during their free periods.

"What really stood out to me was the unity that Writers Week created.  There were no distinctions between jocks, geeks, nerds, and the sort. Everyone came together and were just listening and admiring, and the simplicity and the sameness of each student in that room was very powerful to me."

A Bartlett High School staple since it was brought here by librarian Alyse Liebovich in 2015, Writers Week has expanded tremendously, from 28 periods in a week to 40, with the number of student presenters more than doubling in number from our first to second year.  We're projecting 70+ student presenters for this year's event.

In order to grow as a program and draw in more engaging presenters, we must raise funds to bring in the writers our students want to see.

"Writers Week was my first time talking in front of that many people. It provided me the opportunity and environment to realize that I was capable of more than I was giving myself credit for, and it taught me to not be afraid of putting myself out there."  __________________________________________________________________________________________

That's where (we're hoping) you come in.

As a Patron of Writers Week, you can choose to have your name, your family's name, or the name of your business published in the official Writers Week Program, which lists the schedule for the entire week, including author bios.

It makes a lovely keepsake for those who appreciate the arts, as well as a great marketing tool for businesses.  Listings will be organized into 5 categories:

Patrons - Any donation
Bronze Patrons - $25
Silver Patrons - $50
Gold Patrons - $100
Platinum Patrons- $200

Hoping to contribute more than $200?  For your generosity, we will allow you to choose your own (appropriate) label...get creative!

"Bartlett High School's Writers Week has impacted my life in a way words could not define.  I've noticed that it has inspired the majority of BHS, and I've had a lot of people approach me about it every year. I think it's important to give young poets a safe outlet and solid inspiration."
