th|AIR|apy is a professional non-profit organization [501(c)(3)], created in 2020 to promote and advocate for the mental health of Flight Attendants. th|AIR|apy is positioned as a trusted organization in the aviation industry to connect with airlines worldwide, the media, conduct necessary report research that supports insights and analysis of Flight Attendants mental health.
According to Harvard researchers, they reported increased prevalence of adverse sleep and mental health outcomes among flight crew. They also observed associations between tenure, anxiety/depression, sleep disorders, and alcohol abuse. Our results are consistent with the existing literature, though ours is the only study population to have evaluated all of these conditions. Studies also report elevated rates of suicide among cabin crew.
Previous research suggests risk factors for adverse mental health outcomes among flight crew, including long or irregular working hours, sexual harassment, and a lack of employer protections with respect to occupational exposures. With theses statistics in mind, our goal is to provide 5000 Flight Attendants in 2021 with financial support for 6 – 10 therapy sessions.
th|AIR|apy aims to connect Flight Attendants of all airlines domestic or international with affordable or cost-free professional mental health services. th|AIR|apy works to educate the aviation industry and community about mental health and mental illness that affects Flight Attendants, while working to eliminate any stigma associated with seeking mental health services. Mental Health is stigmatized heavily in aviation which is fueled by draconian policies from the FAA and DOT.
Through our partnerships th|AIR|apy recipients will have access to comprehensive lists of mental health professionals across the country providing high quality, culturally competent services to Flight Attendants. With therapy sessions costing an average of $80 – $200 per session, we have selected a tech platform to increase the likelihood that participants are able to reach a therapist while on a layover or at home, and be able to financially afford therapy after the end of the 6-10 sessions supported by th|AIR|apy’s Therapy Fund. Flight Attendants deserve access to better mental health options which will lead to healthier skies and better financial wellbeing from not having to call out of work due to their mental state.
We appreciate your support!
