Emma's Trip to Bionic Pets

Good Morning Everyone,

Emma here giving you a Monday morning update of my journey! First of all, my hooman told me to thank all of the nice people who have donated to my fund. These donations will help give me the best life possible and will also help the Dalmatian Rescue of South Florida continue to pull vulnerable dogs like me out of the meat trade.

It seems I've become an overnight internet sensation! My mom said there are currently about 5000 people sharing in on my adventures! My mom and I drive from South Carolina to Maryland where my Grammie lives this past Thursday. It was a long 8.5 hour drive, but I LOVE the car and listening to music. On Friday (5/15) I had my very special first appointment at Bionic Pets in Sterling, Virginia! My grammie drove us about an hour to the appointment to see Derrick, who is my new favorite person! Derrick is going to be building me some brand new legs! I am so grateful to the Dalamatian Rescue of South Florida as well as Ms. Tanya at Joey's P.A.W. non profit who helped raise all the money for my new feet so quickly!

Casting Emma's Stumps

I was a little nervous when I met Derrick but after some treats I was a very good girl. Derrick and his helper, Karen used fiberglass casting to make negative molds of my stumps. The will be filled with plaster to create positive mold for him to use while he builds my new prosthetics, or PAWsthetics as I like to call them. My mom even let me pick the color of my new feet so of course I picked pink! Measuring Leg Height

After my appointment at Bionic Pets I got to hand out at my Grammie's house for a day. She has a couple Dalmatians (and a weenie dog) too and I had to much fun playing in her yard with everyone! The next day we drove all the way back to South Carolina. Mom says we have to be very patient because it will take Derrick a couple weeks to build my feet. Once he tells us they are ready, we get to take another LONG car ride to go try them! I can't wait to see how they look!

Hi Furiends,

My name is Emma. A few months back I was found in a slaughterhouse in Beijing, China. I was scared, confused, hopeless, and facing a terrible fate. Some very cruel people removed my front legs and some of my remaining toes. They also cut the end of my tail and my ears, all of which are common practice in these horrific places.

While this sounds like a sad story, I was actually one of the lucky ones! With the help of some very brave souls, my life was spared and I was rescued just in time. Unfortunately for many pups in my position, help comes too late or not at all.

My new life began the day I left that horrible place and started my journey to the USA where the kind people at Dalmatian Rescue of South Florida (Dalmatian Rescue Inc.) took me in and cared for me. In my new home I learned what it felt like to be cared for and loved by humans. I had a special spot on the sofa, soft blankets, toys, food, and plenty of snuggles. I instantly knew that I would never have to fear the kind of pain I had endured back in China. While at the rescue, I met many doggy friends who had come from all different walks of life. Some of these pups had even come from similar situations as mine.

One day my special friend Pati at the rescue told me that there was a lady in South Carolina who wanted me to come live with her! I was excited and happy but also scared because I wasn't sure if she would love me if I couldn't walk. Pati told me that I had gained a lot of fans who all wanted to help pitch in so I could have my very own set of wheels- or my "chariot" as I like to call it. It took some time but my custom-built cart from Eddie's Wheels finally arrived and I was off to a rolling start. Once I had my own means of getting around, I was ready to head to my new home! My new foster-mom drove to pick me up and now I'm living the good life here in Charleston. My new home is a lot of fun and I even have a new spotted sister to play and snuggle with!

I'm still learning how to use my wheels, but my mom makes sure I get a lot of practice. Ever since I lost my feet, I've been doing the kangaroo hop which puts a lot of added stress on my spine and hind legs. Because of this, I'm going to need to see some special rehabilitation doctors and physical therapists. It turns out I also need to have something called a "spay" surgery to prevent me from having puppies in the future.

Please consider donating to Emma's Mobility Fund to help Dalmatian Rescue of South Florida cover my upcoming medical expenses. Our goal is to raise enough funds to cover not only my complex needs but to also set aside some extra money so the rescue can continue helping special needs Dalmatians like me get the vet care, therapy, and mobility equipment they need. Dog rescue is always expensive but special needs pups create a heavy financial burden for rescues that rely solely on donations. This fundraiser will devote extra resources to special needs and abuse cases like mine, giving many more dogs the chance to put their best paw forward.
