Hello Friends and Family

Give 8/28 stands for Give August, 28th. This particular date was chosen given the importance of the August 28th date throughout history. In 1955, August 28th was the day Emmet Till was murdered by three white men, which, became a “flashpoint in the civil rights movement.” On the same day in 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his iconic “I Have A Dream” speech in Washington, D.C. Come 2005 Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Louisiana. The storm, which devastated New Orleans, inordinately impacted many of the city’s Black residents. Most recently in 2008, then-Senator Barack Obama accepted the Democratic nomination for president, becoming the first Black man to ever win the nomination and bid for the presidency.

With August 28th, 2021 just around the corner I’m reaching out in hopes you will join me, on behalf of The Be. Org, to share efforts and contribute towards this year’s goal of fundraising $10,000.
