TLDR: Donate (any amount) to this awesome org that fights for better healthcare coverage for Georgians.
I joined this board because many of my patients fall into Georgia's insurance coverage gap. Georgians for a Health Future (GHF) is a non-profit, bi-partisan organization, formed in 2008. Our mission is to collaborate with communities and partners to lead policy change that advances health equity for all Georgians. Our vision is of a day in which all Georgians have equitable opportunities to achieve their highest level of health.
Our strategic plan supports our initiatives for closing the insurance gap, creating policies for healthy housing, strengthening public health, provider network adequacy, increasing rural access to healthcare facilities, consumer protection laws, and more. more
Through outreach and education with consumers, community-based organizations, and grassroots advocates; through coalition building and mobilization with partners and allies; and through engagement with policymakers and decision-makers, Georgians for a Healthy Future’s work has real impact. Below are some examples of our recent accomplishments, milestones, and victories. With your support, we can accomplish even more.
2024 Legislative Session
Supported bills that passed:
HB 404 - Safe at Home Act: establishes basic tenant protections (limiting security deposit amounts, providing "right to cure" period, etc.)
December 2023:
- GHF, in partnership with The Carter Center and the Georgia Parity Collaborative, hosted roundtables on mental health insurance coverage. These roundtables gathered input from diverse stakeholders to better understand the most effective ways to raise awareness about their rights to mental health care in Georgia.
November 2023:
- GHF joined Physicians for a National Health Program, New Georgia Project, Georgia Equality, elected officials, community members, and patients for a march in downtown Atlanta, pushing for the expansion of Medicaid.
October 2023:
- Cover Georgia and Doctors for America hosted an advocacy training on how physicians and medical students can be leaders in putting patients over politics on one of the most pressing health care issues for Georgia adults--Medicaid expansion.
May 2023:
- GHF released Realizing the Promise of Olmstead: A housing study & policy recommendations and with the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities hosted a virtual event to discuss opportunities to improve access to affordable, accessible housing for Georgians with IDD.
By supporting GHF, you are supporting a cause that I care deeply about and you are helping 359,000 people, who have no access to healthcare, get closer to health equity. No amount is too small.
