Advocacy, Activism, & Services at the LGBT Center!

This year has not turned out to be the 2020 we wanted. But, it is the 2020 we got. And, perhaps, the 2020 we needed. Let me tell you how the talented professionals at Cleveland’s LGBT Center have transitioned to advance our mission in new ways through advocacy, activism, and expert delivery of life-sustaining services.

COVID-19 forced the Center to close our doors.  But, it also increased the need for us to be present for the most vulnerable in our community. So, we went virtual and reached out in new ways:

We reached out to LGBT elders by telephone and through social media to check on their physical and emotional well-being. We even delivered food to those who were not able to safely leave their homes.

We created safe Spaces and delivered engaging programming virtually to Cleveland queer youth. In a time when they were quarantined at home, the services were vital to create connection amongst friends whom they did not get to see face-to-face.

During a time when we all felt concern for our wellbeing, we continued outreach efforts to let the most vulnerable and underserved members of our community know that their health, their safety, and their lives matter!

I have watched as are talented staff took to the Internet, phones, and streets to show up for Cleveland LGBT community during this challenging time. Their skill and professionalism is needed now more than ever.  As we raise our collective voices to ensure that community is not forgotten as our city and our nation recover from COVID, please join me in supporting the tremendous work that the LGBT Center is doing every day!

It may not look like years past, but rest assured: the spirit of Pride is alive through service at the Center!
