Inata just arrived from Puerto Rico. Her owners were going to have her euthanized at 4 months old because they no longer wanted her. The vet contacted Guanica Animal Rescue Project and a foster in Puerto Rico took her in. Now she's made the long journey to the Homeward Trails to find a forever home but there is just one issue. Inata has heartworm that will need to be treated in order to get her healthy and ready for the rest of her life.
Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets in the United States and many other parts of the world. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body.
