Please help Wright-Way Rescue cover the outdoor kennels at our Admissions Center in Southern Illinois! The temperatures here allow our adult dogs to enjoy time outdoors nearly year-round (except when it's raining, of course!)
This roof is part of Camp Wright-Way, a long-term, multi-phase project to optimize the shelter experience of adult dogs in our care. The vision for Camp Wright-Way includes renovations to our existing housing, multiple play yards, an agility area, and training opportunities for the adopters and fosters of Wright-Way Rescue’s adult dogs.
Adult dogs can experience a tremendous amount of stress in shelters. The confinement and noise of shelter life is often overwhelming for those who have come from homes or are used to roaming freely through rural areas. In addition, adult dogs are typically slower to get adopted than younger dogs or puppies. Since they can be with us for longer periods of time, it is important that we give them extra TLC -- and that includes EVEN MORE fresh air, sunshine, enrichment, training, and room to play than we are currently able to provide.
Almost two years ago we began strategizing and raising money to bring this vision to life. We call it Camp Wright-Way, and we want all our adults to feel like they are at camp! Camp Wright-Way is about bringing fun and joy to dogs so that they feel confident and balanced in their core. A confident and balanced dog has a much easier time trusting new people and enjoys a smooth transition into a forever home.
Thus far, we have poured a large, T-shaped concrete pad in the yard behind our main building and placed brand new kennels outside. This has divided the back area into two separate play yards, providing twice as much fun for groups of dogs who get along together!
The next step is to get these kennels covered so that our adults can enjoy more hours in the open air. Please help us along this journey to improving the lives of those who need it so much.
Thank you for helping build Camp Wright-Way!
