I'm in an apartment now!

Update posted 1 year ago

Hi everyone! Here's the latest: Finally I have a home, at least for the next year!

The fundraiser funds continue to keep me going. They will help me get a bed and other basics for my new apartment, bedding, and other housing basics. Plus food and supplements, for now. My mother is paying the rent (which includes gas and electric) for a year and I'm still receiving Social Security retirement and have one music student.

My food stamps allocation has been lowered to $23 a month - starting in April they're ending the Covid emergency allotment. I'm looking for other options to supplement my food budget - food bank deliveries and an organization that delivers meals to chronically ill people are still in the works and hopefully I'll get that soon.

I'm doing well in cancer treatment. It's been a little over a year since my stage 4 diagnosis, and I'm on a new medication which seems to be working well (a scan to confirm is next month).

Of course, I'm extremely grateful to finally have my own roof over my head. It was a few painful months of staying in one place and another after leaving the balcony of the moldy apartment last October. Hopefully I won't be in another housing crisis after a year. But I hope to have good news on that front as well when the time comes. Fingers crossed.

Thank you all again for your generosity! I really can't thank you enough.

Housing and health emergency!

First of all, a huge thank-you to everyone who has contributed to fundraisers for me in the past! I have immense love and gratitude for you. You have helped me and my daughter survive during the past year and a half.

I had early-stage breast cancer when I made my first appeal. I found out in November of last year that the cancer spread to my bones. I'm in active treatment again.

Now, we're in a housing emergency and need funds for moving costs and out-of-pocket medical expenses that will help me cope with the side effects of cancer treatment. We have to move because a mold problem that began in our apartment several years ago was not properly repaired. The toxic exposure is making it difficult for me to tolerate my cancer medications.

I'm currently sleeping on my balcony while my brother is helping me find another living situation. My daughter might have to move out of state to live with her father's family until I get situated again.

Our goal is to give notice by August 1 for a September 1 move to a new place.
