Every winter, Team New York Aquatics, NYC's LGBT (& supporters) swim team, uses the annual national USMS One Hour Swim competition as an occasion to raise money for charities that benefit our community. We compete to see how far we can swim in a pool in an hour, and get pledges and donations for causes that matter to us. This began in the height of the AIDS crisis, to raise money for medical bills for members of our team living with HIV and AIDS. This year we're raising money for two excellent organizations that provide needed services to the LGBT+ community:

The Alliance for Positive Change, formerly the AIDS Service Center NYC, provides crucial services to New Yorkers living with HIV, AIDS and other chronic health conditions to get the medical care, peer support, and housing assistance they need to achieve health, happiness, and stability.

The LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York (LeGaL) provides direct civil legal services to address the unmet legal needs of NYC's LGBT+ community. LeGaL provides services by matching unrepresented individuals with pro bono attorneys and runs free weekly legal clinics targeting low-income folk, especially seniors, homeless youth and protected classes. The range of services include discrimination, housing, marital and family law, immigration and asylum, wrongful criminal prosecution, and the myriad other issues that affect the day-to-day lives of our community.
