Hi. My name is Linda Miele and I'm a heart attack survivor. I'm also a member of Mended Hearts Inc., the largest peer-to-peer cardiac support group in the world and the current President of Brooklyn's very own Mended Hearts Chapter 359.
Mended Hearts, Inc. has been inspiring hope and improving the lives of heart patients, caregivers and their families for 70 years through peer-to-peer support, education and advocacy to others. I joined our local chapter four years ago to learn more about heart disease and how to manage my own cardiac issues and care after suffering a sudden heart attack at work.
Like so many others - - and what we're trying to change here with fund drives like this - - is that I had never heard of Mended Hearts before my own heart attack. I've learned since that a supportive, educational and advocacy group like Mended Hearts is critically important in the healing process itself. WHY?
In the initial days and months following a major cardiac incident like a heart attack, there's ALOT of fear and confusion. Everything we think we know or 'are' about ourselves gets tested and the road forward isn't always easy or clear. We don't have to walk this road alone. There's Mended Hearts.
When I joined MH Chapter 359, I never imagined that I'd one day become chapter President or meet so many supportive and amazing people who would change the course of my own life. I never envisioned myself writing to you now regarding donations for this very important organization as Mended Hearts Inc. expands its focus in building long-lasting support networks and educational and outreach services to those communities now underserved in cardiac education and peer support.
We hope you'll help us in reaching out to others in those communities underserved at this time; communities who are truly in need of the support, education, and advocacy we provide in all the ways we do at Mended Hearts, and to ensure this is available to everyone!
