Everyone has a story... so here's mine!
I started volunteering with Habitat while in college through the Alternate Spring Break Program (included a trip to West Virginia!), which then lead to starting a Campus Chapter with our local affiliate with my best friend. After graduating college, I decided to take a year of service as an AmeriCorps Vista with Habitat Philadelphia. After my service term, I ended up staying as part of the staff until I relocated to the Lehigh Valley to pursue my career as an architectural designer. I volunteered on build site here and there until I became a member of the Family Selection Committee in November of 2018. As of this year, I am honored to now be a part of the Habitat Lehigh Valley Board of Directors!
My experiences gave me a new perspective on how imperative safe, decent, affordable housing is to the stability of families and communities. I watched as women and men learned how to safely swing hammers, tear down walls (physically and mentally), learn about the components of their home, and grow confident in their ability to be a well-informed homeowners.
The She Nailed Competition merges three of my favorite things - women empowerment, construction/architecture and affordable housing! Though I will be serving in a volunteer role this year, I am setting a fundraising goal in support of the event. I greatly appreciate any amount you are able to contribute towards my goal. THANK YOU!!
