Still struggling to poop
Zucchini is still with his foster. Fortunately, the medication for toxoplasmosis is working, and his seizures are becoming less frequent. But poor Zucchini is still struggling to poop!
It is an odd symptom, and one we haven't quite been able to solve. But we're not giving up on this little kitten.
Zucchini came to Homeward Trails from a hoarding situation. His mom and 6 other litter mates were all in rough shape when they arrived. None of them had received any vetting, and needed our help desperately.
Fast forward to today. Zucchini is just 6 weeks old and only a pound a half--a teeny kitten, just getting to know his new foster and his new life. But over the weekend, things took a turn for the terrible when Zucchini started having seizures! Trembling and shaking uncontrollably, falling over, and becoming so disoriented.
We rushed him to the vet straight away. He has since been hospitalized for further examinations and treatments. X-ray results have determined that Zucchini has a narrow pelvic canal, meaning his hind legs can't straighten and he cannot pass stool on his own.
Zucchini has had several enemas, but continues having multiple seizures a day. It is gut-wrenching to watch something so traumatic happen to a kitten so young! Unsure what the cause might be, or how to help.
Right now, we're waiting on the bloodwork results to determine whether Zucchini might have toxoplasmosis. Or perhaps the seizures are neurological. We just don't know yet.
Without a diagnosis, we're helpless to provide meaningful care and treatment. To move forward, Zucchini will likely need an ultrasound, a specialist, and additional tests. The more we can do to understand his condition, the better equipped we will be to provide treatment and give Zucchini his best chance at a full and happy life.
PS - If all that wasn't enough, the poor kitten also has blood and crystals in his urine, meaning he has a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)!
