Jace lives with Pierre Robin Syndrome, requiring multiple surgeries since birth, including treatment for a cleft palate and an underdeveloped jaw, and he will need a future jaw distraction surgery. He experiences ongoing speech impairments, selective mutism, and significant eating and breathing difficulties, and he also manages ADHD, all of which require extensive care and support. The family is living below the poverty line, relying on SNAP and Medicaid, while also struggling to afford basic needs such as food, toiletries, and clothingJace's father is disabled and receives SSD, adding to the household’s financial strain. Although Jace longs to be social, he communicates nonverbally outside the home due to his speech challenges.
