Georgia's 2026 NOLA to Angola Fundraiser

Hello, my name is Georgia. I am a student, environmentalist, cyclist, and volunteer bike mechanic living in New Orleans, Louisiana. I am so proud to be riding in NOLA to Angola this year to raise money for Cornerstone Bus Project. The bus project helps facilitate transportation for families in New Orleans to visit loved ones incarcerated in Angola (the Louisiana State Penitentiary). Louisiana has the highest incarceration rate of any state in the US and is "the prison capital of the known universe." Angola, with around 5,000 incarcerated residents, is the largest prison in the country. Over 70% of these men are incarcerated for life. Without the Cornerstone Bus Project, families in New Orleans might not have a way to traverse the 170 miles from Nola to Angola to see their loved ones again. 

My work and education for the past four years has been centered around the sustainable future of New Orleans. When trying to address issues like climate change and coastal land loss, one thing I try to always keep in mind is: who should Louisiana be livable for? To me, the future of NOLA is not just in combating sea level rise and climate change -- its about a fair, just, and free Louisiana for all. A Louisiana where we invest in a path to the future rather than in the infrastructure of incarceration. By riding, I hope to bring that vision a little closer to reality.
