Known for its grandeur and intricacy, Isola Bella stands as Leber’s most renowned surviving work, having been prominently featured at the 1884 World’s Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition in New Orleans.

Purchased by Theophile Conrad in 1899, the painting has been a centerpiece in the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum for over a century. Its historical significance is amplified by personalized details added by Leber, such as Mr. Conrad’s initials and the year 1899. Unfortunately, despite its enduring beauty, the Isola Bella has suffered significant damage, particularly in the lower right corner, caused by an unfortunate cleaning incident in the 1940s.
