Founded by legendary music promoter Bunky Odom in 2022, Rock N Roll Rescue started with a simple yet profound idea: every child who has a desire to play music should have access to an instrument. This vision is not just about providing instruments; it’s about creating opportunities for self-expression, creativity, and personal growth through music. As a nonprofit organization, we are dedicated to raising funds to donate new and repaired instruments to children who might not otherwise have access. Our mission is to ensure that every child in the Charleston area can explore their musical potential, regardless of their socioeconomic background.

At Rock N Roll Rescue, we believe that music is a fundamental part of childhood. It fosters creativity, builds confidence, and serves as a powerful means of communication. However, many children in the Charleston County School System lack access to the instruments necessary to pursue their passion. Our mission is to bridge that gap and provide every child with the tools they need to express themselves musically.

Our board and ambassadors comprise a diverse group of individuals, including concert promoters, venue founders, respected educators, touring musicians, and advocates for music education. Each member brings a unique perspective and expertise to the organization, helping us to understand the challenges faced by young aspiring musicians. Together, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to explore their musical interests, regardless of their background.

Bunky Odom is not just a legendary music promoter; he is a pioneer in the music industry who helped to invent Southern rock. His passion for music and dedication to supporting artists has inspired countless individuals throughout his career. Bunky’s love for music extends beyond the stage; he believes in the power of music to change lives. This belief is at the heart of Rock N Roll Rescue.

Bunky’s vision for the organization is inclusive and expansive. While he has deep roots in Southern rock, the mission of Rock N Roll Rescue knows no boundaries or genres. We celebrate diversity in music and embrace all forms of musical expression. Whether a child dreams of playing rock, jazz, hip-hop, classical, or any other genre, we strive to support their ideas and aspirations. By providing access to a wide range of instruments, we encourage kids to explore different styles and find their unique voice.

Access to musical instruments can have a profound impact on a child’s development. Research has shown that learning to play an instrument enhances cognitive abilities, improves academic performance, and boosts self-esteem. Moreover, music education fosters teamwork and collaboration, as children often play in groups or ensembles. Unfortunately, for many families, the cost of purchasing or renting instruments can be prohibitive. This is where Rock N Roll Rescue steps in.  

By donating new and repaired instruments to children in need, we aim to create an environment where every child can thrive musically. Our initiative not only provides access to instruments but also promotes a sense of belonging and community among young musicians. When kids have the opportunity to play together, they build friendships and develop social skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.

As we look toward the future, we have set ambitious goals for ourselves. In January 2026, we aim to donate $20,000 worth of instruments to kids in the Charleston County School System. This goal reflects our commitment to making a meaningful impact in the lives of young musicians. We believe that with the support of our community, we can achieve this ambitious target.  

Community support is vital to the success of Rock N Roll Rescue. We actively seek partnerships with local schools, music educators, and community organizations to identify children who would benefit from our programs. By collaborating with educators, we can ensure that our donations go to those who need them most. We also welcome volunteers who are passionate about music and want to make a positive impact in the community.  

Our ambassadors play a crucial role in spreading the word about Rock N Roll Rescue. They use their platforms to raise awareness about the importance of music education and the need for access to instruments. By sharing their stories and experiences, they inspire others to get involved and support our mission. We are proud to have a diverse group of ambassadors who represent different genres and backgrounds, further enriching our organization.
