Ellen's Habitat Fundraiser w/ Pepsi

I first heard about Habitat for Humanity from my friend Laura in Tokyo, Japan. She used to go on builds every summer and she would fundraise by hosting clothing swaps. Laura even got to go on a build with President Jimmy Carter! 

Three years ago, was my first time as a Habitat builder vs. donor. It was so much fun! I laid sod around an entire house (and got eaten alive by fire ants!!). After the morning build, we got to hear from the families that were moving into the homes. They were so appreciative of all our support (time and money). I've since been on a team that built exterior structures and one that painted exterior trim.  Buying a house is not easy and this market has made it prohibitive for many families. Becoming a Habitat Owner requires an application process, donating time on the build and attending classes on becoming a homeowner. It is no small feat!

Hearing from these families (mothers, fathers and children) is so touching and inspiring! It keeps me returning, year after year!
