When I think about my journey with CTCT, I realize I didn't simply become an employee here. I grew here.
I started as a volunteer—showing up because I believed in the work and because serving the community was already part of who I was. That volunteering led me deeper into mutual aid, where I learned that community care isn't always complicated. Sometimes it is food, resources, a conversation, a connection, or simply being willing to show up when people need you.
Eventually, I transitioned from volunteer and mutual aid work into AmeriCorps and then into becoming an employee of Change Today, Change Tomorrow. Each step gave me a different understanding of what it means to serve, organize and build alongside community.
CTCT became one of the places where there was no barrier.
Here, I learned that my lived experience had value. Relationships had value. I wasn’t serving the community. I was apart of the community… My people!!
Today, as Event Director, I get to help create some of the experiences I once would have simply volunteered for. I've had the opportunity to build partnerships, cultivate events, support community leaders and help create spaces where our people aren't simply receiving resources—they are helping determine what our communities need and what comes next.
And somewhere along that journey, CTCT has been part of the ecosystem that allowed me to see that community work could become more than something I did.
It could become my life's work.
When I look back, I don't see a traditional career ladder. I see a journey from volunteer, to mutual aid, to AmeriCorps, to employee, to leadership—with community at the center of every stage.
I am grateful for the opportunities, the lessons, the relationships, the mistakes, the growth and, most importantly, the trust.
I came to CTCT wanting to help.
Along the way, I found a home.
And no matter where this journey takes me, Change Today, Change Tomorrow will always be part of my becoming.
With love and gratitude,
Brittiney Griffin
