In spite of decades of studies that continue to support the importance of oral health to overall health, access to care is a struggle for millions of people in the US. The ADHA Foundation supports dental hygienists by providing scholarships, research grants and community service program grants that help increase access to care. Information from the American Dental Hygienists' website shows programs that were funded by the ADHA Foundation last year, including:
- Delivered mobile preventive care to 6,000+ rural patients
- Provided oral care to 1,000+ underserved children and caregivers
- Brought onsite oral care to seniors on Medicaid
- Gave uninsured patients access to restorative care
- Funded a study on implicit bias and diversity in dental hygiene
- Taught oral health skills to Minnesota children living in foster care
