My family moved to Amherst thirty years ago. One of the (many!) things that drew us to Amherst is the wonderful rural character, and the many hiking and biking trails. Thirty years later (thanks in part to the Amherst Land Trust), the rural character remains, and there are even more areas to enjoy our wonderful outdoor environment.
The Amherst Land Trust's mission is to pursue once-in-lifetime opportunities to conserve—in perpetuity—green and open spaces. A few of our many successes include Joshua’s Park, Wah Lum Reserve in Mont Vernon, Lindabury Orchard, and Grater Woods (in Merrimack). You can learn more about these (and other) properties here.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, the ALT has the independence and expertise to work with landowners, developers, and towns to help secure protection of lands. Sometimes protection comes in the form of generous land donations. When preventing development is not possible, we use conservation easements to reduce developable areas by carving out portions for public access and to protect the land in perpetuity.
Won't you join me in raising $500 for the Trust? As we are an all-volunteer organization, your entire donation will go to saving the land we all love.
