Yesterday at The Nook, Something Powerful Happened

Update posted 7 days ago

Yesterday at The Nook, something powerful happened.

Because of the dedication of our volunteers and Hunger Relief team at Neighbors, Inc., 399 community members received supplemental food support in just a few short hours. That included 121 children, 194 adults, and 84 seniors. Together, we distributed 2,838 pounds of food to households who needed just a little extra to make it through the week.

Behind those numbers are real stories.

There were parents stretching groceries between paychecks. Seniors navigating rising costs on fixed incomes. Families whose monthly Food Market appointments help immensely, but who sometimes need additional support before their next visit. The Nook exists for exactly these moments. It is a low barrier, welcoming space designed to provide supplemental food quickly and with dignity, ensuring no one has to choose between putting food on the table and paying another essential bill.

None of this happens without people and the need is steady.

Programs like The Nook fill critical gaps between larger food distributions. They provide flexibility for families facing unexpected expenses, reduced work hours, medical bills, or seasonal financial strain. For many households, this supplemental support is what prevents a short term challenge from becoming a long term crisis.

When you give during the MN FoodShare March Campaign, you are not just supporting our Food Market. You are sustaining moments like yesterday. You are helping 121 children have snacks for after school. You are helping 84 seniors supplement fixed incomes with fresh, healthy options. You are helping nearly 400 neighbors feel seen, supported, and cared for.

Yesterday was a reminder of what is possible when a community shows up for one another.

Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign

Annual Food & Fund Drive to Benefit Neighbors, Inc.

Neighbors, Inc. is once again joining nearly 300 food shelves across Minnesota in the state’s largest grassroots food and fund drive, the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign. Each March, participating food shelves engage in a friendly competition to raise the most food and financial support. Donations made during this campaign are vital because they help Neighbors secure additional grant funding from the Minnesota FoodShare Food Fund, where 100% of campaign-designated donations are distributed to participating food shelves.

This year, gifts will go even further thanks to a $70,000 matching gift from three generous families. With generous support from local businesses, faith communities, civic organizations, and caring community members, Neighbors’ goal for the 2026 March Campaign is to raise a combined total of $200,000 in financial contributions and at least 50,000 pounds of food.
