Morning Moon

Morning Moon is an independent feature film by award-winning writer-director Aaron Greer. The film follows Selena, a newly orphaned 22-year-old who receives a mysterious lead on the father she never knew. Her search leads her to a stranger’s doorstep, unearthing secrets, guilt, and unexpected family bonds.

More about Morning Moon

The Filmmaker – Aaron’s feature films (Service to Man, Gettin’ Grown) have screened at renowned film festivals (Tribeca Film Festival, American Black Film Festival, etc.), as well as being distributed on TV and streaming. Aaron is also a Professor at UW-Madison.

Inspiration – In 2016, Aaron gathered with a group of friends during which they mused about the sudden appearance of a 21-year-old at their door. Questions emerged: Would that new child become family? Who is family? Are we the genes we’ve inherited? The secrets we’ve inherited?

Production Logistics – Morning Moon will be filmed in July 2026 by a small professional crew and a mix of union (SAG) and non-union acting talent from Wisconsin and beyond. 

Locations – Set in Madison, the story interweaves the lives of our main characters, as they traverse the city looking for the truth about Selena’s parents. Story locations include a coffee shop, night club, community center, fertility clinic, hospice facility, library, and more.

Main Characters – Selena (22, Black) is fiercely independent but finds herself adrift in dealing with the fallout of her estranged mother’s death. Avi (40s, White) is a recovering addict, who’s settled in his life until he’s drawn into Selena’s search. Nya (40s, Black) is going through invitro fertilization when a fully grown child-in-need arrives on her doorstep.
