Why I’m Supporting Change Today, Change Tomorrow

I live in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, but some of the most meaningful connections happen when we step outside our own communities.

I met the founder and director of Change Today, Change Tomorrow at a fundraising intensive, and hearing her story and the story of the organization she built has stayed with me.

Change Today, Change Tomorrow is a Black woman-led, community-driven organization in Louisville working to address the barriers that disproportionately impact Black communities, particularly in Louisville’s West End. Their work centers around Food Justice, Community Engagement, and Public Health.

And they don't just talk about change. They are doing the work.

Through Feed the West, they provide free, healthy groceries to West End residents. They redistribute food that might otherwise go to waste, while also working on community gardens, food education, public health, and other initiatives designed to build long-term health and resilience in the community. Their philosophy is not simply to provide for people, but to activate the strength that already exists within the community and help neighbors become leaders and changemakers themselves.

One statistic on their website stopped me: there is a 15-year difference in life expectancy between Louisville's West End and East End. Where you live can literally affect how long you live. Change Today, Change Tomorrow is working to change that reality.

But there was another part of my conversation with the founder that really moved me.

I learned about the challenges of securing funding for a predominantly Black-led organization doing this kind of grassroots work. As someone who works in the nonprofit world myself, I know how difficult funding can be even for organizations with strong missions and measurable impact. Hearing her experience made me want to do more than simply admire the work from a distance.

So I became a recurring donor.

I believe in supporting people who are willing to stand in the gap and do the work, especially when they are serving communities that have historically been overlooked or under-resourced.

That's why I'm asking you to join me in supporting Change Today, Change Tomorrow.

You don't have to live in Louisville to make a difference there. A one-time gift helps. A small recurring gift helps even more because it gives a grassroots organization the reliable support it needs to keep showing up for its community.

I met someone doing meaningful work, I heard her story, and I decided I wanted to be part of the solution.

I hope you'll join me!
