Southern Tier Reduces is a community-led initiative to reduce waste. We advocate for zero-waste communities in the Southern Tier region through a Bring Your Own program for businesses and education for all ages on composting, reduction and reuse, and zero-waste alternatives. Through policy and culture shift, we can change the impact we have on the environment by reevaluating our consumption patterns. We can create a healthier, cleaner world for all -- and it starts right here in our neighborhood.
We are proud to be sponsoring Southern Tier Reduces as they embark on their journey to becoming a recognized non-profit organization. The work that they are doing in our community directly supports a large part of our Mission here at Friends of the Chemung River Watershed. Fewer single-use plastics being used means fewer plastics entering our waterways, disrupting the natural ecosystems, and the plants and animals that call the Chemung River and surrounding areas home. It also means fewer microplastics ending up in our drinking water! We all live in a watershed; help us, and Southern Tier Reduces, keep it clean by using a reusable container for drinks and leftovers, reducing the amount of plastic packaging you buy, and disposing of waste properly!
