The idea is simple but not easy. . A climb draws attention; that attention becomes funding for prevention. And prevention is the part of this work you never see, because it shows up as the things that don't happen: a teenager who recognises the trap, a teacher who spots a warning sign in time, a parent who knows how to talk about manipulation.
In Romania, nearly half of all identified trafficking victims are children — close to three times the EU average. The most important story is often the one that never has to be told.
I leave on 1 August and, if the conditions allow, go for the Matterhorn on the 3rd, then Dom, returning on the 9th.
I won't promise a summit — you read the mountain honestly and turn back if you have to. What I can promise is that every dollar goes to human trafficking prevention programmes and direct assistance for victims.
I get to choose my hard. Victims of human trafficking never do. Mountaineering has always been my passion. Fighting this crime became my mission later in life. Through this initiative I get to combine the two and, as someone said, to do what I love to fight what I hate.
Our goal is to raise $34,000. If you're able to support it, I more than appreciate it. And if a climb isn't your thing, forwarding this to one person who might care helps more than you'd expect.
