The Spark: When a Mission Becomes a Passion
Young Thinkers of York (YTY) was never supposed to be this big.
In 2017, it began as a simple response to a local need: providing York, PA youth with an outlet for their curiosity. What started as a modest attempt to engage kids in science and technology quickly transformed into a mission. It became a passion to mentor students who were hungry for discovery but lacked a place to explore. We created a sanctuary—a safe space where kids could learn and grow, ensuring the limits of a zip code didn't define the limits of a child's potential.
6,000 Students and Counting
Since those first days, our impact has rippled across the region. To date, we have taught over 6000 students throughout York County. We are particularly proud of our deep roots in the community, having taught over 500 students within the York City School District this school year alone.
We’ve watched elementary students pick up their first gear and grow into confident leaders heading to college with elite engineering skills. We aren't just building robots; we are building the next generation of York’s workforce.
July 2024: The YMCA Partnership
As our impact grew, so did our need for a permanent home. In July 2024, Young Thinkers of York officially joined the YMCA. This partnership has revolutionized our reach, providing:
A New Workspace: A dedicated, modern lab where kids can leave their projects out and their imaginations open.
Increased Presence: Greater visibility and accessibility within the heart of the city.
Expanded Programs: New curricula in coding, mechanical engineering, and digital design.
