Experts report that weak social connections carry a health risk comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Risk intensifies by economic hardship, intersecting with housing, food, child care, and transportation insecurities to name a few.
Risk also intensifies by parental role. Pressures fall heavily on Mothers, who often carry the daily burdens of caregiving, meal prep, budgeting, health care, and crisis management.
Data from the U.S. Surgeon General’s 2024 Advisory, Parents Under Pressure, emphasizes when Mom is stressed, kids are stressed and everyone's short and long-term health suffers.
Every Mother Matters Mentoring Circle includes free dinner, not only eliminating an obstacle for Moms to get into the room, but creating the perfect environment for making new friends.
Over the past 10 years, Erie City Moms has hosted more than 10,000 women and children for a free sit-down, family-style dinner in the name of finding a place to belong, learn, and grow. Our Moms continually report a sense of belonging, lower stress, and increased confidence!
This fundraiser will support providing hot, healthy meals for 75 Moms, 100 kids, 60 childcare volunteers and mentors through the 9-month programming year, a 2,196 meals.
