GiGi's Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Centers of Atlanta provides free therapeutic programming, resources and support to families of individuals with Down syndrome.
GiGi’s also inspires individuals to give their “Best of All” – a challenge to do a little better than you did the day before. Infants through young adults give their “Best of All” in programs focused on gross and fine motor skills, as well as intellectual, social and communication development.
Early intervention is critical for children born with Down syndrome to develop fit and functional bodies for a lifetime, but COVID-19 has severely impacted our network of Playhouses around the country, and locally, it’s affected our ability to address the developmental needs of these individuals in Atlanta and greater Georgia.
Because of the virus, GiGi’s Playhouse Atlanta was not able to hold its main fundraising events this year. This lack of funding and COVID precautionary measures caused the Atlanta Playhouse in Midtown to close its doors, leaving one Playhouse in Roswell. Many of our families are now relying fully on GiGi’s at-home virtual programming. This format is difficult for kids with disabilities and many children have fallen behind in learning critical skills like crawling, walking and talking.
While we have pivoted quickly to virtual programming and limited in-person therapies [with COVID precautions], we have more work to do. And, we are not giving up! We are making progress in serving regardless of the circumstances.
The Junior Board of GiGi’s Playhouse Atlanta is ready to help the Atlanta Playhouse bounce back! We know that every dollar raised makes a difference. Our ultimate goal is to raise enough funds to reopen the Atlanta location when the time is right, but know that all funds raised will go towards serving our Playhouse families and helping those who utilize our services reach their “Best of All” in a way that makes sense during these unprecedented times. Please consider donating today so that our Playhouse can continue to impact as many families as possible!
