LAMB Theatre is currently working on moving the Theatre and School to 625 Douglas St, a historic building which was built in 1909 as the first Sioux City Auditorium. The Sioux City Economic Development Department contacted LAMB three years ago asking if we would consider moving our operations into this historic building and return it to its original purpose of being a regional entertainment center. After a couple of meetings where we discovered that people like Sarah Bernhardt, Ethel Barrymore and John Philip Sousa to name a very few had performed in that building, this became a project we had to embrace as an opportunity to restore one of Downtown Sioux City’s crown jewels. The City is committed to this project and their Economic Development department is assisting us in locating federal and state grants as well as assistance in purchasing the land and the building. Being across the street from both City Hall and the historic Woodbury County Courthouse, this location will provide the people in Sioux City and the surrounding area with quality arts experiences in a beautiful setting.
However, it is up to LAMB Arts to secure the rest of the funds necessary to complete the project. We have been very fortunate to have fulfilled two Gilchrist $250,000 matching grants and are working on completing the third.
