Innocence Carleton
Our goal is to educate the public about Criminal Justice reform and the issues within our Criminal justice system. As the next generation, it is our mission to ensure that no one is ever wrongfully convicted of a crime. Innocence Carleton is focused on preserving the values set out by the Innocence Project and Innocence Canada.
We have the power to make real changes in our communities; it starts with one person and ends with you.
Innocence Carleton will be planning philanthropies, taking on social justice initiatives, offering information on legal services, creating a bail fund and encouraging Carleton students to get involved with the movement.

Innocence Project
The Innocence Project's mission is to free the staggering number of innocent people who remain incarcerated, and to bring reform to the system responsible for their unjust imprisonment.
- Exonerate. The Innocence Project represents clients seeking post-conviction DNA testing to prove their innocence. We also consult on a number of cases on appeal in which the defendant is represented by primary counsel and we provide information and background on DNA testing litigation. To date, 367 people in the United States have been exonerated by DNA testing, including 21 who served time on death row.
- Improve. The Innocence Project’s Strategic Litigation department works through the courts and the legal system to address the leading causes of wrongful conviction and prevent future injustice.
- Reform. The Innocence Project’s policy department works with Congress, state legislatures and local leaders to pass laws and policies that prevent wrongful convictions and make it easier for the innocent to receive justice.
- Support. The Innocence Project aims to meet the varied and individualized needs of each of their clients upon their release.
- Educate. A top priority is to improve the accuracy and reliability of forensic science. We work at the federal level to encourage science-based evaluation of validity of forensic disciplines, funding for research, development of national standards, and support for judicial training.
