Now more than ever, we need stories that uplift, challenge, and create community, and we must support the playwrights who write those stories.
We are committed to developing five playwrights’ new, unproduced work at the 43rd Bay Area Playwrights Festival this July. While we hope that it will be possible to do so in person, we are actively developing plans to create a virtual aspect to the Festival, if necessary, to protect the health and safety of our writers, collaborators, and audiences. Either way, we will connect these playwrights with top notch professional Bay Area directors, dramaturgs, and actors and provide much needed jobs and development for these artists.

This Festival has become an important launchpad for emerging playwrights -- in fact, close to 80% of the plays we develop receive a full production at a professional theater. Over the years, PF has amplified the voices of artists such as Katori Hall, Rajiv Joseph, George Brant, Marcus Gardley, Yusef El Guindi, Aaron Loeb, Liz Duffy Adams, Lauren Yee, Chris Chen, Lauren Gunderson and others who have gone on to transform the American theater with their work.
