For over 60 years, the Lynchburg Humane Society has operated as a private, non-profit organization, caring for lost and homeless pets. In 2019 our Lynchburg Center for Pets and our Appomottox Pet Center cared for 4,962 pets and 92% of the pets went to new or existing homes. We are a 501c3, as well as a No Kill Humane Society, where we firmly believe that no healthy or treatable pet should be euthanized. Since 2015, we helped over 4,000 pets from other public shelters that otherwise may have had a negative outcome. We accept those that are easily adoptable as pets, as well as those that need special nurturing from abusive or neglectful experiences. Along with our Center for Pets, we also have a regional spay/neuter clinic located in Evington, VA which performs over 6,000 spay/neuter surgeries annually It is the help of the community that makes our life-saving programs possible.
Mission: Help pets in need through sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter, and community outreach.
Vision: A community free of homeless and neglected pets
Something incredible has happened in animal shelters across the United States during these unprecedented times. Thousands of once homeless animals found their way from shelters to couches in a matter of days amid the country's Covid-19 pandemic. Families across America opened their homes to foster and adopt shelter dogs and cats clearing many shelters out!
This is something that should be celebrated. Many of you may be new to fostering or adopting and we can’t thank you enough for standing hand in hand with us to save lives.
Join us on April 18th for the National House Pawty. There will be celebrities from the Hallmark Channel and Netflix, professional athletes, trivia, live music and Jon Dunn from Best Friends Animal Society hosting a few interactive fun activities! There will also be a few surprises...
To further support the Center for Pets, we are also looking for fundraising partners. As a partner, you will be raising lifesaving dollars for the Lynchburg Humane Society. We are asking each partner to raise $250 by asking your friends and families to help you meet your goal. Our work saving animals does not stop. These dollars will go directly to the pets at LHS you love and will provide them VITAL financial help during this crisis.
