Concern for Animals is a 40 year old 501(c) 3 non-profit that is powered by passionate, animal-loving volunteers and staff that are dedicated to the welfare and quality of life of animals in Thurston, Mason, and Lewis counties in Washington state.
The mission that drove Ann Albohn and Joyce Pearce to found Concern for Animals in 1980 is the same mission CFA fights for today:
“To assist those struggling financially with pets in need of food, medical care, and spay/neuter procedures, and to promote the welfare of all animals.”
Concern for Animals (CFA) began with a vision to help those who cannot help themselves, and over the years CFA has assisted thousands of animals in need with a variety of veterinary services. Keeping our community safe, healthy, and happy is our priority.
In 2019 alone CFA helped approximately 731 people and 880 pets!
Here's how we do it:
Serving Mason, Thurston, and Lewis counties, CFA supplies a weekly pet food bank, spay/neuter program, and veterinary assistance fund for low income pet owners that in some situations may view euthanasia, surrender, or even abandonment as their only options.
Some of our service include:
- Spay/Neuter & Medical Vouchers
- Pet food bank & pet food delivery with Meals on Wheels
- Education
- Trap, neuter, & return
- Services for senior pet owners
- Services for pet owners experiencing domestic abuse and homelessness
- Rescue, rehabilitation, & adoption program (check out some CFA rescues in this video!)
Your donations make it possible for us to continue our work providing valuable and much needed solutions for pet-parents in crisis situations. They allow us to rescue more kittens, treat more pups, and feed the birds, guinea pigs, bearded lizards, and more that risk going hungry in our shared community.
How CFA services helped Kim & Oreo in their time of need:"I had contacted this organization in desperate need for assistance with emergency medical need. My dog Oreo had been hit by a car and I had been unable to raise money for vet expense. I was worrying she could have internal injuries. I needed to take her to get checked out and had NO options for vet bill. Feeling nothing but pure despair and loss of any hope for my dog getting seen and/or any medical care. I reached out to a friend who suggested I contact Concern for Animals.
The lady who answered my call was a God send. She listened to my situation and took immediate action. She solved my crisis and turned my perspective back around giving me HOPE for my dog. I can't thank her and this organization enough for covering the cost of the vet bill. Oreo was seen and I am ecstatic to report NO internal injuries, no broken bones or fractures. Oreo has bumps and bruises and scrapes. She was prescribed an anti-inflammatory/ pain medication. I cannot express enough what you have done for me and my dog. Thank you doesn't put into words the gratitude I feel for this organization."
