About Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control
The mission of Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (aka Friends of DACC, FoDACC) is simple: HELP DETROIT ANIMALS. However, the task of doing so is not always so simple.
In 2019, DACC, the municipal shelter for the city of Detroit, took in nearly 5,000 animals. They were neglected, abused, lost, or abandoned. Many of them needed medical attention, which - in the past - meant sending the animals to partner clinics to learn of their ailments. It was costly and time-consuming, which is tough when you're a small nonprofit - every second and dime counts.
In 2020, DACC brought on a full in-house vet team. Dr. Bigwood and her team have already made a huge impact in the way we are able to screen and treat the homeless animals that come into the shelter. However, we are missing one HUGE key element to ensure their success: an x-ray machine!
We need your help to secure the funds - $34,000!! - so we can purchase this life-saving piece of equipment. Please consider donating today. Every dollar helps!
Dogs like Huck - who has heartworm disease (left), Bliss (middle), and Oscar - who was rescued from a well (right) , could all have benefited from an in-house x-ray machine.
Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and holds a Bronze Award of Transparency through GuideStar.
