When most people think about Habitat for Humanity, they think about the construction of a house and often see volunteers raising the walls. This is only one part of our mission — the house just happens to be one of the main visible aspects. The real reason we support homeownership is because of all of the intangible benefits that stable affordable housing can provide.
Over the years I have seen so many homeowners plant roots, watched their families grow, kids graduate school and go on to college, people retire and become grandparents. It’s about what happens AFTER families move in that we are excited about.
