The Hamsa Fund is the East Bay's Jewish Teen Philanthropy Board and is a program of Contra Costa Midrasha, with funding support from the Jewish Federation of the East Bay and other supporters. It provides Jewish teens from all over the East Bay with the opportunity to learn how to run their own philanthropic foundation.
Hamsa means five in Arabic and Hebrew and is the Jewish symbol of an open hand. One of the inspirations for our name is Deuteronomy 15: 8, where God instructs us:
"Rather, you shall open your hand to him, and you shall lend him sufficient for his needs, which he is lacking." We believe that hands help us take action, they connect us to our community and they help us open ourselves up to those in need.
The Hamsa Fund 2020's Mission is: to enable equal access to a quality education by funding organizations that empower youth to succeed in all learning environments.
