About Mothering Justice
The mission of our organization is to empower a well-organized group of mothers that can engage fellow mothers and law makers around a variety of issues that affect working families, and in particular families of color.
How We Shape Change
Most recently, Mothering Justice enacted a COVID-19 strategy where we do porch drop-offs of essential items, like diapers and baby formulafor Mamas around Detroit.
Mothering Justice led the fight to get the Earned Paid Sick Time law passed in the state of Michigan.
Resolutions in recognition of Black Maternal Health Week at state and city levels.
Engaged thousands of Mamas (and mama allies) to build community through our fellowships and advocacy events.
Educate and support Mama activists (aka Mamavists!) to urge policymakers and state leaders to be responsive on issues in our Mamas' Agenda
How Your Donation Will Help
During the recent COVID-19 pandemic we have seen Mamas be penalized for having to care for their children while working from home. There are also increased child care shortages, and workplaces that continue not to offer adequate maternity leave policies. With all this in mind, in the future we want to focus our work to strategically respond to these issues.
These funds will also help support the costs to maintain our fellowships (which include a stipend for Women of Color), advocacy efforts and community events plus continued professional development for our staff.
There is no other organization in Michigan that is focused on policy and economic justice issues that impact Mothers of Color. Mothering Justice fights for the voices of the most marginalized groups in this state to be heard and to be acted upon. Donate today to help us further our mission!
