October 7, 2019 Our Journey to Ft. Myers was rocked as was diagnosed with a case of Placenta Percreta at 19 weeks. We were told at our appointment that we should immediately be checked into KU Med due to multiple heavy bleeds. We spent 7 weeks meeting with a large team of specialists. Some of which were pushing us to deliver as early as 22 weeks. Eric snd I decided together we would keep pushing but the second my life was threatened, we would need to deliver. On Nov. 18th, I went into preterm labor. After lots of team meetings and test, it was decided that it was safest for both baby Myers and I to go ahead and deliver at 25w3d. The following day, our sweet boy was born weighing 1lb 14oz and 13.5 inches long. During the C Section, it was decided that they would sew me up and perform a delayed hysterectomy in hopes of an “easier” surgery.
December 16th I started to hemorrhage at home. After rushing to the ER, my doctors decided the delayed hysterectomy couldn’t wAit. After a 4.5 hour surgery to remove my uterus, tubes, and cervix, Along with bladder reconstruction, i could officially say “ I was a SURVIVOR”.
Our sweet miracle spent 11 weeks in KU Meds NICU where he impressed all doctors. He’s now 9.5 months old and thriving. Our journey was crazy but we are so in love with where it led us.
We want to continue to raise awareness for this life threatening pregnancy condition. It was something we never would have expected and something we had never heard of. We want to make sure other women are aware of the impact This condition can have and the many different ways they can fight to save themselves and their babies ❤️
