This year, our team is stepping-up to the plate. The WIFFLE Ball Bonanza is all about looking out for our friends with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The My 1 Friend fund at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation focuses on supporting transitional care patients with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
Transitional care patients are those leaving pediatric and entering adult endocrinology care. Unfortunately, this is normally an usual and unfriendly time for those battling T1D. My 1 Friend primarily addresses safety/medical ID issues relating to T1D and research for finding a cure, all done within Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP).
Since 2017, the WIFFLE Ball Bonanza (WBB) and its participants have been directly responsible for donating $50,000 to the My 1 Friend Fund. Furthermore, seeing as we all can't play WIFFLE ball forever...or maybe we can, the WBB Board of Directors has partnered with the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County (CFWC) to establish an endowment fund which will continuously support My 1 Friend's efforts for years and years to come. The CFWC operates directly with The Pittsburgh Foundation (one of the country's largest community advised donor funds).
The Bonanza's partnership with CFWC and The Pittsburgh Foundation has made all donations tax deductible. All proceeds from the WBB go directly to CFWC and in-turn, a yearly grant contribution is made to the My 1 Friend fund at CHP!
After 12 years of playing America's favorite backyard game and 8 years of fundraising, the WIFFLE Ball Bonanza has generated over $125,000 to support those battling Type 1 Diabetes.
