This is a tough time for just about everyone I know. But, it's important to have hope.
The coming weeks and months may continue to be bleak. But, it's important to have hope.
I DO get it. Not only are we all worried about our health, but tempers are often running high, stress levels are through the roof, stores are out of toilet paper, and money is tight. You are not alone! My business is suffering, we are on lock down, practicing social distance on essential outings, and barred from our normal shelter volunteer shift. While I love staying home with Sadie and Whiskey, I miss my pet sitting clients and of course, the shelter animals.
But I have hope! While so many of us are being forced to stand still, Intermountain Humane Society is plunging ahead. While many shelters have had to close their doors to transfers, IMHS just processed a van load of new animals from areas in Colorado that are much worse off than we are right now. With the public and most volunteers barred from the shelter, the few staff members are managing animal care and enrichment for all the furbabies. They could have said no...it would have been much easier. But they are committed to helping as many animals in need as they can. There you have it, Intermountain Humane Society gives me hope!
The official festivities that surround the Trails for Tails hike-a-thon have been cancelled, but the fundraiser continues! We will be spending this 'down time' on our Hikes for Hope! The Feller family, 2 and 4-legged, will by moving our Tails on various Trails in HOPE that you will support us in this endeavor. Won't you please make a donation to Intermountain Humane Society for us? Please?
This is Sadie's 3rd year participating in the Trails for Tails hike, and will be my 11th summer volunteerSadie, Trails for Tails, 2018ing for IMHS. I think most of you know Bob joined me in this effort over 5 years ago. This year, we are joined by Whiskey, a 5 year old, somewhat shy boy adopted from IMHS in November. Even though this is a 'virtual' hike-a-thon, rest assured we will be hiking for this cause on our own.
Whiskey, the new kid!We had an active 2019 with IMHS. Before adopting
Sadie and AnnieWhiskey, we were fostering dogs. First, there was Annie, who was afraid of the world. After a YEAR in our shelter her she wasn't making
enough progress getting over her fears to make her adoptable. In comes my girl Sadie, teaching her all there is about life, and what do you know? A few months later, Annie is adopted by a forever family who loved her at first sight.
And with the help she got from Sadie, the world is now a pretty fun place!
Sadie and Alfie
Then came Alfie. While we expected only to have a short time with him, some behavioral issues kept him here longer. As always, Sadie worked some magic on him and helped him with both obedience and play manners. As he grew into a loving beast, he was accepted into a behavioral program thru an IMHS partner, and was adopted almost immediately. We miss our foster kids tremendously, it's not an easy thing to do, but we know how much it helps. Once Whiskey is more comfortable with life, we hope to start bringing in foster dogs again.
We love helping Intermountain Humane Society, and are happy to have Whisky join our IMHS fundraising team.
Won't you help us by making a donation? All donations through my campaign will be dedicated to the Special Needs fund, which allows IMHS to take in more challenging animals who need just a little bit extra. Our Hike For Hope is a hope for the future, when all pets can be in loving homes!
ps. The family challenge will be off this year. I am saving up prizes for next year and should have a whole grab bag of goodies to dole out thru out the challenge. If you can donate a little this year, I'd sure appreciate it and we will rev up the competition for next year.
