"'Cold Waters' refers to the Trout habitat. Trout need really clear, clean, cold water to live and thrive. Part of what excites me about our endeavors here with UPLC and protecting areas like this like this, is that we're going to be making an effort in protecting cold water fisheries. Because fisheries impact not just the fish themselves, but the entire ecosystem."

from 'Discovering the Dead River Community Forest'
Chinook and Coho Salmon, Brook and Rainbow Trout, Whitefish, Perch, Pike, Burbot, and Bass....these are just a some of the fish that swim in these cold waters throughout the year. From Lake Superior to inland lakes, rivers and streams - ensuring these waterways are a protected for future generations of all life that share them - for now and forever.
Discovering the Dead River Community Forest
This year UPLC is embarking on an exciting project to ensure the permanent protection of 186 acres of riparian forest along the Dead River Basin. The proposed Dead River Community Forest will provide incredible recreation opportunities and expand our community's access to outdoor education. Part of the river protected by this healthy forest goes underneath the old CR 510 bridge - a place that is held dear by so many people as a shared fishing spot and a high area to view the fall colors. Working in partnership with Trout Unlimited, as well as 20 other partners, we will ensure that the incredible cold-water gravel bed areas of the river are preserved for the fish and other finned (and non-finned!) friends who call the waters home.
Donating as a Finned Friend is about making a commitment to the health of clear, clean, and cold water habitats across the UP!
