Two years into the global health pandemic, we have seen thousands of people thrown into poverty and uncertainty. We’ve also seen unprecedented measures of relief, however incomplete. During the pandemic 30,000 Vermonters were added to the Medicaid rolls, and thousands benefited from eviction moratoriums and temporary motel housing.
But we know that the pandemic was not the beginning of the healthcare or housing crises–simply a magnifier of them. And with the pandemic coming to “a close,” our government is talking about “unwinding” these life-saving measures, as opposed to winding them up, or putting permanent solutions in place.
We cry justice! Healthcare, housing, and a liveable planet are human rights!
Just back from the historic Poor People’s and Low Wage Workers’ Assembly and Moral March on Washington DC and to the Polls, Vermont Workers' Center members are ready to continue the fight for the future we all desperately want and deserve.
