The West Louisville Performing Arts Academy - Thriving Today and Growing For the Future!

The West Louisville Performing Arts Academy boasts a rich 30-year history of empowering youth through music education, choral performance, community service, and diverse experiences.  Launched by Mr. McDaniel Bluitt in 1990, the boys’ Choir was inspired by the Harlem Boys Choir’s success and structure.   In the three decades since its inception, the West Louisville Boys Choir traveled and performed across the United States. A high watermark of the Choir’s journey was its tour of Europe, where they sang on the steps of Buckingham Palace in Great Britain and performed a pop-up concert in front of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The Choir achieved these successes with the support and participation of gracious friends and donors.

Mr. McDaniel and Mrs. Mamie Bluitt have grown the original Boys Choir into what has now known as the West Louisville Performing Arts Academy. The Academy includes the Girls’ Choir and the guitar ensemble.  The Academy operates on funds earned through performances and grant awards from Arts philanthropy.  The Academy works out of its current home in the ArtSpace Building at 323 West Broadway, Louisville, KY.  The Academy has served and prospered thousands of young people from across Metro Louisville and enriched arts education in urban communities across Jefferson County.

The Transition

During the 30th year Hope Awards Celebration in December 2019, the Bluitts announced the Academy’s transition leadership to their son, Mr. Josh Bluitt.  The transition will take place over a multi-year period to ensure the continuity and integrity of leadership during the transition.

The Plan For the Future

Every viable organization seeks to grow and achieve more each year. The West Louisville Performing Arts Academy is no different. Planning and working for the Academy’s future, we are launching the 50 Million Penny Founders Seed Fund Sustained Giving Campaign.  80% of the contributions raised will seed the endowment fund to create a sustainability plan for the Academy. Twenty (20%) percent of the gifts will establish a development operation for the Academy to launch and manage future capital and sustained giving initiatives.

The Goal:

Raise $500,000.00 over five years as a seed fund to create an endowment for the Academy.

The Objectives:

  • Build a grassroots support community of 5,000 people in the Metro Louisville and Southern Indiana region who each give a minimum of $100.00 to the Academy over five years.
  • Connect with the grassroots community through performance in their community.
  • Build a network of 25 community-based membership organizations who champion the work of the Academy.

How can you help?

  • Give a tax-deductible donation to the Academy of $100.00 or more in a one-time, semi-annual, quarterly, or monthly gift.
  • Share your support and philanthropy with ten people in your family or friendship circle, your work community, church, fraternity, sorority, or social organization.
  • Introduce The Academy by sharing our introductory video with ten people.
