YOUTH-DROWNING PREVENTION AND WATER SAFETY
About one in five people who die from drowning are youth aged 14 and younger. For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries. The YMCA has been instrumental across the county in providing Safety Around Water and Structured Swim Lessons to youth to counteract incidents.
HELP US SAVE LIVES!
Our goal is to teach 10,000 children to swim over three years that would not otherwise have the opportunity due to finances, pool access, or transportation. We partner with schools and community pools in the City of Detroit and surrounding areas to ensure that every child can be confident in and around the water.
