Be a BOSS and support the growth of the Business of Student Success!

We provide year-round and multi-year academic guidance and support, mentoring, exposure to unique real-world experiences and opportunities for advocacy and service, positive role models, career exposure and networking, life advice, equipment, and other resources to position and prepare our middle school and high school scholars for success.

We've grown from a handful of boys looking to make a change in their lives to over 200 dreamers we're empowering to become high achievers!

Your contribution will help us with the following:

  1. Deliver BOSS programming including food, transportation, counselors, facilities, equipment & supplies (approximately $4,500 per boy annually)
  2. Fund our annual two-week BOSS Summer Academy (approximately $1,500 per boy) and our in-person BOSS Saturday sessions (approximately $150 per boy annually)
  3. Support implementation of the recommendations contained in our recently completed strategic plan that are designed to move the organization from success to significance.
  4. Allow us to further develop our culturally sensitive math resource, which is being built on the latest research in effective math education for boys of color and aligned to the current (2013) California Common Core state standards and informed by the newly adopted 2023 Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools: Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve.

Our impact includes the following:

  • 99% of our BOSS alumni are pursuing post-secondary education at a time when three-fourths of boys in Southern California are exiting high school without meeting the requirements to even apply to a four-year college or university. We count Stanford, UCLA, CSULB, San Diego State, and San Jose State, as well as HBCUs Xavier, Morehouse and Florida A&M among the colleges our scholars are now attending.
  • Annual selection for the Posse Foundation scholarship.
  • BOSS Coders developed an award-winning and US patented mobile app, Safe Encounter, as part of 2020 MIT Global Appathon for Good.
  • BOSS was selected by the NFL/Super Bowl Host Committee, from among hundreds of Southern California nonprofits, as a Super Bowl 56 Legacy organization because of our transformative impact in the Los Angeles area community.

Testimonials:

Being a part of BOSS reminds me of the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child." BOSS provides my sons with opportunities to learn from positive male role models. They learn skills that promote resilience, determination, and confidence, which have led to growth and success inside and outside the classroom.  -Kim (A mother with two sons who are BOSS scholars)

BOSS is an important program to be in because it gives me the chance to work on ME and be the best that I can be. I like the guest speakers and meeting people who have achieved success throughout their journey of life. -Elijah (A 6th grade BOSS scholar)

BOSS is special because it develops young boys and builds them into bright men. We learn things at BOSS that other programs don’t teach… like self-restraint, delayed gratification and a growth mindset. -Alexander (An 8th grade BOSS scholar)

The BOSS program is like no other! It’s not just an academic or athletic program… It’s a program that uses a holistic approach and cultivates the greatness that our sons have within. It’s a game changer for our boys and we’re thankful to be a part of the BOSS family. -Mr. & Mrs. Bond (parents of two BOSS scholars)
