Our 20th Year, and Our Most Critical Moment

Since GAIN’s inception in 2005, we’ve celebrated wins with thousands of immigrant survivors—through work authorizations and asylum grants, from housing support to healthcare referrals, we’ve met each moment and milestone with our client families as they’ve worked to rebuild their lives here in Georgia. This year marks our 20th anniversary, a milestone we celebrate with pride, but also with the recognition that this has been our most difficult year yet. New state and federal policies are reshaping the landscape for immigrant survivors and asylum seekers, making it harder than ever for families to achieve safety, stability, and justice. Our clients need more, immigrant communities across the state need more, all while the ecosystem for crucial legal and social supports is fracturing.

Why GAIN Matters Now

A circle of care: For 20 years, GAIN has provided not just free immigration legal services but also wraparound and community support, creating “circles of care” that stabilize and rebuild lives.

A long-term commitment: Unlike providers with short-term interventions, GAIN walks with survivors for 10-12 years, supporting both their legal cases and basic needs like food, housing, and healthcare.

A conduit for community support: Through creative partnerships and community collaboration, GAIN channels culturally responsive resources directly into immigrant communities, helping overcome barriers that too often limit access to essential services.

An anchor in uncertain times: With peer organizations closing or scaling back, GAIN remains one of the last anchors of stability in Georgia, even as staff (many from immigrant communities themselves) carry the emotional toll of unrelenting crises.

Why Your Gift Matters Now

As we navigate one of the most difficult years in our history—with federal grants that once sustained 40% of GAIN’s budget reduced by cuts and restrictive eligibility—we are reminded of the strength that comes from community. For 20 years, we have walked alongside immigrant survivors of crime and persecution, and today, we invite you to join us on that journey. Your donation helps us provide emergency relief, legal representation, and pathways to stability for families who have nowhere else to turn. Together, we can transform fear into resilience, uncertainty into hope, and isolation into belonging—ensuring that immigrant survivors in Georgia are protected and empowered for the next 20 years and beyond.
